The RAF Tests: Airman Selection Test (AST)
The RAF’s Airman Selection Test (AST) is used as part of the process for becoming an airman/airwoman. The AST comprises the following seven multiple choice tests:
1. Verbal reasoning
2. Numerical reasoning
3. Work rate
4. Spatial reasoning
5. Electrical comprehension
6. Mechanical comprehension
7. Memory
How are the RAF Tests used?
Applying to the RAF is a process that takes several months from initial application through to acceptance. The staged selection process involves interviews, a fitness test, and of course, aptitude tests. The tests that you are asked to take will depend upon the particular RAF career that you are applying for: officer, non-commissioned aircrew or airman/airwoman. If you pass the RAF Airman Selection Test you will progress to the next recruitment stage – the health assessment.
